Life waiting a new hope

A beautiful embryo of an arboreal salamander (Aneides lugubris) still growing inside the protective shell of the egg.

This individual is studied, together with other ones, at the University of California by Prof. Vance Vredenburg and his team to discover the complex relationships between the microbial community that normally lives on the skin of these animals and the dangerous chytrid fungus that’s killing Amphibians around the world.
