The walls of the Gomantong caves are teeming with tens of giant centipedes (Thereuopoda sp.). These large predators prey small spiders, cockroaches and they are also reported to feed the organic material on the ground floor by some guides, although it seems scientifically unconfirmed. They possess a pair of modified legs that have a stinger and can administer a painful sting if picked up by hands. To take this image I had to squeeze into a shallow crevice inside the cave’s wall, and I had some centipedes running on my body and face while taking this particular wide-angle shot
